Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Research has shown that 90 percent of all violent crimes end on the ground and because of the fact that controlling your opponent is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, many of the techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focus on at bringing down an opponent in order to obtain a dominant position and rendering your opponent harmless. This is made possible by creating leverage effects, dominant positioning and holding on to your opponent. Students of this sport develop a broad and deep knowledge of the operation and limitations of the human body. This knowledge can be used to control an opponent and subjecting them to a level deemed necessary by the student. The way to gather this knowledge is demanding for body and mind. Students benefit from increased physical fitness, increased problem solving skills, self-knowledge about body and mind and the many social benefits of working in a large group of fellow students learning the same goals and thereby helping each other and have fun together.
